About Own the Podium
Own the Podium (OTP) is an innovative and collaborative initiative without precedent in Canadian Sport. It was created to bring together the key parties involved in leading and funding excellence in Canadian sport, with specific emphasis on achieving excellence at Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This individual is responsible for leading the planning and implementation of ‘excellence’ programs
for targeted winter sports.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Manage and mentor the winter high-performance advisors, as they undertake their responsibilities with National Sport Orginizations (NSOs), Canadian Sport Centres (CSCs), Integrated Support Teams (ISTs) and others.
· Assist with OTP interventions with client groups when and where appropriate.
· Manage technical specialists (i.e. video analysts) working with the winter program.
· Build working partnerships with the winter sports to ensure common vision, goals and strategies to achieve excellence in targeted sports.
· Work effectively with Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), Canadian Sport Centres (CSC) / Canadian Sport Institutes (CSIs), IST staff and others to accomplish various tasks.
· Contribute to the establishment of annual business plans and be accountable for implementing these plans.
· Work effectively with and under the direction of the CEO and with colleagues in other parts of the program, and specifically with the summer OTP program to ensure common approaches, policies and unified leadership for high-performance sport.
· Ensure OTP staff is fully integrated into sport science, medicine, research, technology, coaching and initiatives, and promote these opportunities to client groups.
· Formulate funding recommendations, lead the annual and other reviews of the winter sports (and assist with CSC reviews) to identify priorities that will produce podium results
· With others, develop new policies and programs that will assist achieving excellence at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
· Promote excellence in Canadian sport and contribute to national communications strategies and programs to do so
· Undertake program and personnel evaluations during Games, training camps and competitions
· Undertake intelligence gathering on international issues, trends, results etc.
Qualifications
· Education University Degree or College Diploma.
· Over ten years experience working at a senior level in the high-performance sport system.
· Computer skills and knowledge of the MS Office Suite is required.
· Bilingualism is a preferred asset
Compensation
The compensation package will be based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Purpose of Manager, Intelligence and Performance Analysis Position
Reporting to the Director Sport Science, Medicine and Technology, the Manager, Intelligence and Performance Analysis will lead the strategic development of national and international initiatives aimed at information gathering along with the educational development and application of new performance technologies. The incumbent will also lead and oversee all aspects of competition results analysis, development of “Gap Analysis” strategy and IT/statistics management for Own the Podium, and will work in collaboration with national sport organizations and others.
Roles and Responsibilities
Intelligence
· Develop and implement ongoing Olympic and Paralympic observation strategies which evaluate strengths, challenges, and best practices of Canadian National Teams and identified International Programs.
· Monitor historical and current trends via intelligence gathering regarding leading nation’s development and application of new performance technologies targeted at improving international sport performance.
- Identify and support strategic opportunities with select International Federations to integrate performance technology services and liaise in other sport science initiatives which may be mutually beneficial.
- Assist OTP Targeted NSOs in clarifying opportunities to excel beyond close international competitors.
Performance Analysis
- Lead the development of an accurate and timely OTP Competition Results database for summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic sports.
- Undertake “data mining” activities from the performance database to determine national and international trends, NSO and athlete performance analysis, and prepare reports from these assessments
- Assist OTP and NSOs to develop appropriate tools and practices for them to undertake comprehensive “micro-data” analysis and appropriate gap analysis
- Coordinate the development, direction and implementation of performance technology strategies (i.e. e-training, video analysis technology – Dartfish, GPS systems, timing systems, other emerging technologies, etc.) towards enhanced research, enhanced scouting, enhanced benchmarking, enhanced skill acquisition and enhanced independent learning.
- Liaise with the ‘Top Secret’ program to ensure the latest, world class performance technologies are leveraged for the benefit of Canada’s targeted Olympic and Paralympic programs where appropriate.
- Research, develop and apply new technologies and programs for the application of technology into coaching and sport performance. Coordinate the application, education, and development of these technologies for and with OTP Targeted NSOs in an easy to understand format.
- Stay current with technologies, coaching tools and testing processes for performance analysis. Attend, gather and exchange knowledge in the area of performance technology at priority Games preparation seminars, coach’s education/sport science conferences within Canada and strategic international events and/or trade shows.
Knowledge Required and Qualifications
- Familiarity in performance technologies, data collection, data analysis and feedback in sports biomechanics, exercise physiology and sports psychology.
- Experience in video technologies including connectivity, formats and equipment.
- Exceptional skill using MS Excel, with capability of developing graphics and charts for reports and Power point presentations.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with the challenges facing sports in their quest for medals at Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as a critical understanding of International trends in high performance sport.
- University Degree or College diploma. It is also preferable that the candidate has experience in statistics, computer science, sport performance analysis in an educational setting.
- Bilingualism is a preferred asset.
